Marine mammal observation

Marine Mammals are protected under the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017, Conservation of Offshore Marine Habitats and Species Regulations 2017 and the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended) which make illegal any disturbance to these species without a license.

Even when a license to undertake activities that may disturb marine mammals has been granted, conditions of the license often dictate that monitoring of the activity is required by trained professionals.  A good example of this has been the installation of steel pile foundations for offshore wind farms.

Burton Reid have a JNCC-accredited Marine Mammal Observer who can advise on the requirements for marine mammal monitoring and assist with surveys.
