Intertidal Habitat Survey

Certain activities in the intertidal zone (e.g. installation of infrastructure or dredging) need licensing by the Marine Management Organisation under the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009 and/or the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017.  As part of a license application there may be a requirement to carry out ecological surveys to investigate what impacts, if any, are predicted in relation to the development.  This is particularly important at locations that are within protected sites (such as a Special Area of Conservation)

Burton Reid has the expertise to plan and carry out surveys of intertidal habitats including sediment shores, estuaries and rocky shores with follow-up habitat mapping and reporting.

Within the expertise Burton Reid has of intertidal survey, we can also offer microscopic identification of intertidal infauna (i.e. organisms living within sediment) in addition to identification of epifauna and macroalgae.
