Work placement week!

Isolbel from the Atrium Studio School joined the team for a week. Here’s what she thought of us…

A big thank you to our work placement student this week from The Atrium school, a brand new Studio School for students in Years 9-13 specialising in the Built Environment and a few words from Isobel herself about her experience with us:

I am Isobel and I go to the Atrium Studio School. I did a week work experience with Burton Reid and I really enjoyed it, especially when I was outside doing surveys. I prefer doing active learning, so I found it useful to be learning about different types of plants whilst I was in a wood looking at the trees instead of sat down at a table reading from a book all the time. I have learnt lots about ecology and what ecologists do which is visit sites and do surveys such as a bat survey and if there are any signs of a protected species they make the client get further surveys done before any planning applications can be sent. Also, ecologists recommend products such as bird houses to put on the site to give protected species more places to go or replace their old places. This is definitely something I would think about doing later in my life.

We wish Isobel lots of luck and success in whichever career path she chooses to follow and Tilly the office dog will certainly miss her lunch time walks!
