The challenge

Transition Homes required robust ecological evidence for two planning applications, including new proposals for eight homes and revisions to a previously consented scheme, on a site with important South Hams SAC bat habitats.

Our solution

We undertook a comprehensive suite of surveys: Preliminary Ecological Appraisal, UKHab mapping, bat activity, reptiles, and Brown Hairstreak butterfly egg searches. Working closely with the client and design team, we ensured robust avoidance, mitigation, and compensation measures, including habitat retention, enhancement, and biodiversity-led landscaping.

Outcome

Our Ecological Impact Assessment demonstrated no likely significant effects on South

Hams SAC bats or local biodiversity, with measurable biodiversity benefits delivered through targeted habitat enhancements.
