The challenge

A planning application for 101 homes, including affordable housing, needed strong ecological evidence to meet national and local biodiversity policy and support Torbay’s five-year housing land supply.

Our solution

Over four years, we combined early-stage desk study and habitat mapping with targeted protected species surveys (bats, Hazel Dormice, reptiles, Badgers, Cirl Bunting, breeding/wintering birds). We then prepared a robust Ecological Impact Assessment and a biodiversity net gain strategy to satisfy policy requirements.

Outcome

With our clear recommendations for avoidance, mitigation, and compensation, the proposed scheme demonstrated no significant adverse impacts, supporting sustainable housing delivery for Torbay.
