Bats and the Law: What Roofing Professionals Need to Know

May 20, 2026

I was delighted to be invited by Russell Blackaller to contribute to the Spring 2026 edition of Traditional Roofing, sharing insight into bats and the law.

My article can be found on pages 10–11 (see link and PDF below) and brings together a number of real examples from historic buildings, showing how collaboration between roofers and ecologists can lead to practical, efficient, and sometimes really interesting, outcomes on site.

A huge thank you to the roofers, project teams and clients who are open to working collaboratively and willing to trust the process.

And a particular thank you again to Russell for the invitation, it’s been a pleasure to contribute to such a lovely magazine.

It’s encouraging to see these conversations becoming more normal across the industry.
