Meet Jenni

Jenni Reid CEnv MCIEEM

Founder & Director

Jenni Reid is founder and director of Burton Reid Associates, an award-winning ecological consultancy specialising in the provision of high quality ecological services

She is a Chartered Environmentalist and a full member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology & Environmental Management (CIEEM). Jenni is also an Approved Building with Nature Assessor and a panel member of Design South West.

She has published articles on green infrastructure in CIEEM In Practice (September 2019) and for the Society for the Environment “Greening the Industrial Strategy” which was delivered to Ministers. In 2019 Jenni was shortlisted for “Environmental Professional of the Year” Society for the Environment. Burton Reid Associates have been awarded “Highly Commended” Small Consultancy of the Year CIEEM Award in both 2019 and 2022 and Commended in 2024

Ella Dangerfield

Senior BNG Ecologist

Ella Dangerfield is an Ecologist with a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science with Professional Training.

Specialising in botany, she holds a level 3 FISC certificate and focuses her skills on habitat surveys using the UK Habitat Classification, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) calculations and strategies. In the context of BNG, she has trained and experience in MoRPh Pro river surveys and River Condition Assessments. She is experienced in conducting Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, including scoping for protected species and in conducting National Vegetation Classification surveys. She is also competent at surveying for a range of protected species, such as bats and reptiles.

Finance Manager

Julie is AAT qualified and has many years’ experience in all things financial / business related. Her vast knowledge has been gained from working for large companies like Gillette UK Ltd and Red Paddle Co to small businesses including wholesalers, engineering firms and presently for Burton Reid Associates.

Julie is a hands on person who enjoys getting involved and learning everything about the company she is working for.

Julie is proficient in CRM systems and many financial software packages with a broad knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.

Jenna Kingston

Jenna Kingston

Professional Ecologist

Jenna Kingston is a multi-disciplined Ecologist with a BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences. She has a focus on protected species and habitats.

Jenna has over four years’ professional experience working within the environmental sector, including working as an Ecologist, and as a Community Engagement Officer. Jenna holds a Level 1 licence for both bats and dormice and is experienced in conducting a range of ecological surveys for a range of habitats and species including UK Habitat Classification, River MorPh, bat, dormice, reptiles, birds, badgers, and otters.

Jenna is also proficient at producing a range of ecological reports, QGIS mapping and Biodiversity Net Gain calculations. Jenna leads and contributes to many projects, regularly liaising with a variety of stakeholders including clients, and landowners. Jenna also has experience conducting ecological supervision/Clerk of Works on a range of sites including small scale developments and larger-scale infrastructure projects.

Tamsyn Bridger

Meet Tamsyn

Tamsyn Bridger

Principal Ecologist

Tamsyn has been working in ecological consultancy for over 11 years, having previously also worked for the Wildlife Trusts. During her time in consultancy, she has been involved in a wide range of projects including both small and large scale housing developments, commercial redevelopments and renewable energy schemes. She specialises in project management and co-ordinates the ecology team project programme, working with our finance manager to ensure projects are delivered on time and to budget. She produces Ecological Impact Assessment reports and is frequently a first point of contact for clients regarding new projects. She has extensive experience in protected species surveys including reptiles, bats, great crested newts and badgers as has coordinated mitigation works relating to reptile translocations.

Tamsyn is an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology & Environmental Management and holds a Level 1 Class Licence for great crested newt.

Imogen Mathews

Senior Bat Ecologist

Imogen Mathews is an Ecologist with a BSc (Hons) in Zoology and a focus on Bat Ecology.

Specialising in bat ecology with a strong focus on protected species survey work. Hold a Level 1 bat licence and experienced in a wide range of bat surveys, including activity, emergence, re-entry, and hibernation surveys (as an accredited agent). Skilled in assisting with EPSL applications and the development of mitigation strategies.

Experienced in conducting Preliminary Ecological Appraisals with a focus on scoping for protected species, and competent in a range of protected species surveys, including bats, nesting birds and reptiles, with associated reporting.

Erica Chivers

Professional Ecologist

Erica Chivers is Professional Ecologist with a BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences and a focus on protected species. She is trained in conducting a range of protected species surveys, including bats, birds, reptiles and dormice, as well as experience in assisting with Phase 1 / UKHab assessments. Erica is also skilled in the analysis of bat sound and video data, writing technical reports and assisting with EPSL applications.

Tom Bonser

Professional Ecologist, Qualifying Member of CIEEM

Tom Bonser is a professional ecologist with demonstrable experience delivering UKHab botanical walkover surveys and BNG condition assessments for development and habitat creation schemes.

He is competent in the preparation of ECIA reports, botanical and habitat tables, desk studies, Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans, and advisory notes. Tom brings strong technical capability in UKHab GIS mapping and BNG metric calculations to support feasibility, planning submissions, and LPA review processes. Currently contributing to strategic ecological planning through greater horseshoe bat consultation work, including mapping of commuting routes, foraging habitat, dark corridors, and ecological pinch points.

Amanda Awbi

Meet Amanda

Amanda Awbi

Graduate Ecologist, Qaulifying Member of CIEEM

Amanda Awbi is a graduate ecologist currently undertaking a part time PhD in applied ecology. She focuses on ecological policy and research, and brings experience in field surveys, ecological monitoring techniques and experimental design, and data analysis.

Amanda has expertise in assessing the ecological impacts of solar developments and knowledge of applying findings to develop evidence based recommendations. Amanda also has practical experience in protected species surveys and GIS habitat mapping. She is currently completing a PhD in ecology at the University of Exeter evaluating the risks and opportunities to biodiversity and ecosystem services from UK solar developments, with particular expertise in assessing soil health and invertebrate communities. Amanda has developed experience in experimental design, advanced data analysis and interpreting ecological evidence to support mitigation and ecological enhancements. She has contributed to published works with the University of Plymouth and the Environment Agency.

Alexander Leishman

Alexander Leishman

Principal Ecologist

Alex has over 14 years’ experience working as an ecological consultant and is a Full member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology & Environmental Management (CIEEM).

He has experience of providing tailored ecological input into a wide variety of projects for private and public sector clients across the UK. Alex leads on GIS spatial mapping within the team, including Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, and has had key involvement in planning policy and regulatory work including Habitat Regulation Assessments for local plans and Local Nature Recovery Strategies. He has extensive skills in coordinating and carrying out a range of ecological surveys from preliminary ecological appraisals and UK Habitat Classification to specialist surveys for protected species. He specialises in bats, with experience in licensing and on-site mitigation work.

Joseph Dodd

Joseph Dodd

Graduate Ecologist

Joseph Dodd is a graduate ecologist specialising in botany and habitat classification.

He holds FISC Level 4 and is a BSBI Identiplant tutor, with strong experience in UKHab walkover surveys and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) mapping and condition assessments. He also has practical experience in woodland management and woodland condition assessment, supported by a Level 3 Forestry and Arboriculture qualification covering woodland establishment and management. In addition, he has completed the Basic Tree Inspection course as well as a Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue qualification.
